Sport picks up as wind dies down - Sunday Sun - Newcastle-upon-Tyne

THE weather last weekend certainly dealt a bit of a blow to localangling when gale-force winds resulted in very little sport takingplace.

This weekend is supposed to be much better with light winds andreasonable temperatures, so sport should be quite good.

Whittle Dene Reservoirs are still producing some very good netsof small roach, with fine presentation necessary for double-figurenets which consist of 150-plus fish.

Visitors to Aldin Grange are finding that the mild weather hasthe spring fish feeding well.

Wayne Harrison had a nice 38lb net of ide, Eddie Hearn and afriend had great success with tench, ide and crucian carp allfalling to maggot.

Ed Rutherford took 24 carp and a similar amount of ide on maggotover liquidised bread. To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Aldin willbe holding a 28 peg match in May. Tickets cost pounds 35 with apounds 10 deposit securing your place. Call Mick on 07901 538 587for full details.

If you fancy owning, or at least gaining an interest in, a nicefishery, then you may be interested to know that Hartlepool Waterhave announced that they are selling off their reservoirs, whichinclude Crookfoot and Hurworth Burn.

The latter in particular will be of interest to coarse anglerswith its fantastic stocks of roach.

Leazes Park AA are holding a membership evening next Tuesday atthe club house in the park (7pm). This is a good opportunity to joina very good club with their city centre water easily available toall aspects of local transport. Would-be members are asked to bringalong a passport-sized photograph.

Also next Tuesday, the Tyneside division of the Pike Anglers Clubwill host a talk and slide show at the Blaydon CIU club.

Guest speaker will be Shane Patterson and admission will bepounds 2 for PAC members, pounds 3 for non-members. OAPs, disabledpeople and juniors will be admitted free.
