IN this Hitlist Easter Special, Gerry Ryan tries to discover who are the greatest Irish sportsmen and women of all time?

The answer isn't based on Gerry's own opinions but on the Irish people's choice.

Earlier this year, a nation-wide opinion poll was conducted especially for the Hitlist by Lansdowne Market Research. The results feature no less than 10 different sporting codes and include some well-known sporting heroes like Christy Ring and George Best.

But there are also some more unexpected names on the list - as well as some surprising omissions.

Amongst those giving views on the selection are Eamon Dunphy, Eamon Coughlan and George Hamilton.

This Hitlist is likely to prove controversial anywhere that sport is followed.
